Canterbury Super Course - Powell In Car
Posted by Daniel on Monday 23rd of August 2010 05:10:12 AM
In Car camera shots from the third heat of the Canterbury Super Course. As Wayne Moriarty had snapped an output shaft on his gearbox, there is a remote possibility of progressing up the National Overall points field. As such I throttled off to ensure a win but not put the car at risk.

Rolls takes Maiden Victory

Canterbury racer Bruce Rolls has taken 1st outright at the Super Course, round 5 of the Asset Finance Offroad Racing Championship. Rolls biggest competition in Super 1600 was expected to come from Wayne Moriarty, who won the first heat race. However Moriarty blew his transmission on the second heat which put an end to his day. Rolls went on to win the remaining races, giving him the outright win for the event.
Class one, unlimited buggies, was won by NZ2 Daniel Powell in his twin turbo 350zx powered Jimco. Powell has had a season plagued by mechanical failures but his win in the Super Course has put him back in contention for the national title.
The lap record for the weekend went to Otago racer Hamish Lawlor in his Australia designed, Class 10, Barracuda. Unfortunatey diminishing points cost Lawlor an outirght win at the event but he still managed to take a class win and gained enough points to take the outright Southern Series title.
Some of the best racing came from the truck classes with Canterbury's Simon Smith battling all day long with Nelson drivers Darrin Thomason and Paul Milne in the Sports Truck class. Thomason tokk the class win with Milne and Smith ending the day second equal. Milne's consistent season has put him 1st in class and 3rd outright in the Southern Series.
Steven Boyd cleaned up in the production truck class, winning all four races. Boyd didn't compete in the first round of the championship but with this win and double points at the finals he now has a shot at the Production class title.
Donald Preston was the only Thunder truck racing as many are either taking a season off or in the process of building new trucks. Preston struggled all day with transmission problems and ended the day with only one wheel drive.
Challenger class saw a battle all day long between Wellington based driver, Scott Campbell, and Kurow's Adam Ried. Campbell was making what he hoped to be a succesful return to the sport after almost a year off, unfortunately it wasn't to be. On going brake issues, a roll over, a loose wire and a jammed clutch peddle cost him any chance of victory.
Teams now two months to prep their cars in time for the double points final in Manakau.

Nelson 300K Enduro Event
Posted by Daniel on Sunday 15th of August 2010 08:37:01 PM
The Nelson 300K Enduro event is coming up on Saturday 18 September and is set to be a great race.
The track is an approx 35K loop with some fast bits and some tricky bits it should be a magnificent track with a lot of time spent by some people to make it happen. The track is in the Dovedale Valley and looks like it’s shaping up to be a great race with only a $99 entry fee so it is affordable to everyone.
Scruitneering will be on the Friday night and gates open on the Saturday morning at 7am with racing starting at 10:30am with all competitors racing to win the title of the 300K Ruff N Tuff.
The Nelson club have been working really hard gathering sponsors for the event and have succeeded in this task with several businesses coming on board as the sponsors and some being local businesses and some being from out of town getting in behind them. Some of the Sponsors are GT Radials, Mag and Turbo Warehouse, Repco, Placemakers, Polar Refrigeration, Resene Automotive, Nelson Brake Services, The Stables Restaurant and Bar, If there is any other businesses out there who would like to provide product sponsorship please contact Kathy Thomason on 0274752509 or Bryan on Chang on 0272847447 it would be much appreciated.
There will be good viewing of the race from different areas and should be enjoyed by all who want to battle the cold but at least there won’t be any snow (we hope).
The south islanders are looking forward to the competition from the North Island and they are looking to run it biannually.
